Milestones Ministries
Passing on the faith from generation to generation is at the heart of the church. Milestones bring an awareness of the presence of God not only to the child, but to families and individuals of all generations through a partnership between home and the congregation.
Preston Meadow currently has the following Milestones in place for children:
Birth - Baptismal Blanket
During the baptismal worship service, the child receives a blanket that has been put together by one of our elementary age Sunday school classes. The students receive the guidance of our OWLS (Older Wiser Lutherans) in the blanket making process.
3 Year Olds - Parenting In The Pew
The parents of our 3 year olds have the opportunity to attend our 2 week Parenting in the Pew class. This class equips our parents with the ability to teach their child that worship is a blessing and to help them face that challenges that may sometimes be involved. The 3 year olds then receive their nametags during worship.
Kindergarten - Lord’s Prayer
The kindergarten students along with their parents attend a 2 week class full of activities on learning about the prayer Jesus took time to teach his disciples the Lord’s Prayer. Then after the 2nd class, students and parents come forward to lead the congregation in the prayer during worship.
2nd Grade - Receiving of their Bibles
This milestone is done to help parents fulfill the promise they made during their child’s baptism to place in their hands the Holy scriptures and to provide for their instruction in the Christian faith. Parents and extended family members are encouraged to personalize their child’s Bible by highlighting favorite scripture verses. Students receive their Bibles during worship and then attend the “How To Use Your Bible” class taught by Pastor Art or Pastor Paul.
3rd & 4th Grade - Books of the Bible
Students will attend a 2 week class in which they will learn the books of the Bible by memory. This will give them comfort and knowledge of using their Bibles. |
